Document Scanner: Turn Phone Photos into Clean Scans

Photos of documents taken with a phone are often crooked, distorted into a trapezoid, or have a cluttered background. This tool automatically finds the four corners of the page and “straightens” the photo so it looks like it came from a scanner, then enhances the colors or converts it to grayscale as needed. Common uses include receipts and invoices for expense claims, keeping copies of contracts and application forms, handwritten notes and homework submissions, and capturing whiteboards and posters. Everything happens inside your browser, and your photos are never uploaded to a server.

How to take photos that are easy to correct

• Use a contrasting background: White paper on a dark desk makes the edges easiest to detect automatically.
• Get all four corners in the frame: Leave a little space around the page when shooting, and don’t cut off any corners.
• Light it evenly: Avoid shadows from your phone or hand falling on the page, and try to avoid glare from desk lamps.
• It doesn’t need to be perfectly straight: A slight angle is fine, since that’s exactly what perspective correction fixes, but too steep an angle will blur the text on the far side.

Steps

1. Upload a photo, or tap “Take Photo” on your phone.
2. If the photo is sideways or upside down, first use “Rotate / Flip” to straighten it; the edge correction that follows will be more accurate.
3. The page edges are detected automatically; if the detection isn’t accurate enough, drag the four corner points to line up with the actual edges of the page.
4. Choose a color mode and output format, click “Correct & Export,” check the preview, and then export.

The three color modes

• Original: No filter is applied; best for documents with red seals, colored tables or photos.
• Enhanced color: Brightens the paper background and boosts contrast; good for dim photos or yellowed paper, keeping the colors while making it easier to read.
• Grayscale: Best for text-heavy receipts and documents; the text is sharper and the exported file is smaller.

Output formats and multi-page documents

JPG files are small and easy to send, fine for most documents; PNG is lossless and suits images you’ll edit further; PDF exports the corrected result as a single-page PDF. To combine a multi-page scan into one PDF, export each page as a PDF, then go to the PDF Toolbox, check them in the order you want, and merge them into a single file.

On iPhone, the result opens in a new tab, where you can use Safari’s Share button to save it to “Photos” or “Files.”
