AI Background Removal, One Click to Cut Out Your Photo
Upload a portrait, product photo, pet photo or any general photo — AI automatically detects the subject and removes the background, exporting a transparent PNG, or composited onto a white or custom color background.
Everything runs locally in your browser — your photo is never uploaded to a server
The first use downloads a small AI model (about 4.5MB). It's cached in your browser afterward, so it won't need to download again.

Smart Background Remover Guide: Product Photos, Profile Pictures and Presentation Assets
Removing backgrounds is one of the most common needs when making product photos, profile pictures, and assets for presentations and posters. This tool uses an AI segmentation model that runs in your browser to automatically find the subject of a photo and remove the background, with no manual tracing and no need to upload your photo to any server. The first time you use it, a model of about 4.5MB is downloaded and cached in your browser, so afterwards it’s ready to use right away.
Common uses
- E-commerce and secondhand listings: Swap product photos onto a white or solid-color background for a cleaner, more professional look.
- Profile pictures and business cards: Remove a cluttered background and replace it with a single color.
- Presentations, posters and social media graphics: Export a transparent PNG and layer it directly onto any design.
- Pet and object stickers: Cut out the subject to make stickers or collage material.
After automatic removal, you can touch up by hand
AI background removal sometimes removes a little too much or too little. That’s when you can use “Manual Touch-up”: choose “Restore” and paint over the photo to bring back parts that were removed by mistake, or choose “Erase” to paint away background that wasn’t fully removed. If you make a mistake, click “Reset Touch-up” to start over. Check “Compare with Original” to view the original photo alongside, making it easier to check the edges.
Backgrounds and output formats
- Transparent PNG: Keeps the background transparent; best for design software, presentations or web pages.
- Solid color background: Composite onto white or any custom color; switching backgrounds doesn’t require reprocessing.
- JPG: JPG doesn’t support transparency, so choosing JPG automatically uses a white background; files are smaller and easier to send.
Shooting tips for better results
- The greater the difference in color and brightness between subject and background, the more accurate the detection.
- Keep the whole subject in the frame and avoid cutting it off at the edges.
- Well-lit, sharply focused photos work best; edges in dark or blurry photos tend to come out uneven.
- Fine strands of hair, glassware and semi-transparent fabric are hard for AI background removal; combine with manual touch-up to handle them.
Note: If you’re making an official ID photo, separately check the issuing authority’s requirements for photo size, background color and face proportions.
FAQ
Q: Are my photos uploaded to a server for processing?
Background removal runs locally in your browser; your photos are not uploaded or stored on a server.
Q: What if the edges aren’t clean enough?
Fine hair or semi-transparent objects may not come out perfectly. Use the Restore and Erase brushes under “Manual Touch-up” to fix them.
Q: Can the output have a solid-color background?
Yes. After removal you can add a white or custom-colored background — handy for ID photos or product shots.
Q: Which image formats are supported?
Common formats such as JPG and PNG are supported for upload and export.
Q: Can I process several photos in a batch?
It’s currently designed for one photo at a time. Processing photos one by one keeps detection quality and results consistent.
